REDD+ Indonesia Provincial Partners

REDD+ Indonesia Program focuses on strategic actions of land and forest fire prevention; legal reformation and law enforcement; conflict resolution; acknowledgment and protection of indigenous people; social forestry; and communication action, campaigns, and stakeholder engagement.

Indonesia’s vast administrative area requires a specific type of strategy which will be able to integrate the agenda of national interest as well as becoming a catalyst of regional development goals. In its implementation, UNDP’s REDD+ Program uses a jurisdictional approach by selecting 6 priority province to become its partner in executing the REDD+’s program in Indonesia. The 6 provinces are chosen according to the estimation of their respective emission contribution as well as the level of urgency surrounding their issue of forestry.

West Sumatra, Riau, Jambi, South Sumatera, West Kalimantan, and Central Kalimantan are the 6 provinces selected to become the partners of REDD+ in implementing the 6 strategic actions enshrined within REDD+ Indonesia’s program in the transition phase during which we will begin entering the second phase of REDD+ implementation in Indonesia.
